Some helpful grkids.com readers suggested Myers Lake as an alternative to Versluis Lake, which costs $8 per vehicle. So if you’re looking for a free beach experience that isn’t too far away, consider heading out toward Rockford and enjoying this splendid park!
Here’s what we found:
- The “beach” is a grassy area. Closest to the water, there is some sand/clay that kids were playing in.
- This is not a zero-entry lake. There is a short seawall that defines the border between the land and water, so I’m not sure how good of a beach this would be for kids under 2 unless you want to hold on to the child anytime he/she is in the water.
- They have a fabulous playground and lots of shade trees with picnic tables.
- The restroom facilities were pretty nice and included changing cubbies (but they had no doors…)
- There is a gas station nearby, but other than that you are in a remote residential place, so plan to bring everything with you that you would need. No concessions at the park.

This is a great place to take the kids swimming. We only live a few miles from there and the kids love to swim there. The swimming beach is very clean. The playground area is great!
